Photographie et peinture

À la base de ma démarche photographique, il y a la musique. D’abord, la musique classique dans laquelle j’ai été baigné pendant toute mon enfance. Puis la musique dite “moderne”, celle du début du 20ᵉ siècle jusqu’aux années 1960. C’est par ce biais que je me suis orienté spontanément vers l’art pictural moderne situé autour des années 1940-50 et, en particulier, vers la peinture abstraite, notamment celles de Jackson Pollock et Paul Klee. Sans doute, sans le savoir, avais-je ressenti le frisson musical qui émanait de cette peinture.

Mon but a toujours été de m’éloigner du réalisme de l’image photographique et de me rapprocher le plus possible de la musicalité de la peinture abstraite.

Photography and Painting

At the foundation of my approach to photography, you find music. First, the classical music in which I was immersed during my childhood. Then, the so-called “modern” music, that of the beginning of the 20th century to the 1960s. So it was quite natural for me to become fascinated by the modern pictural art of the 1940s and 1950s, in particular Jackson Pollock and Paul Klee. I suspect that, without being fully conscious of it, I could feel the musical pulse which permeated that form of painting.

My goal has always been to distance myself from the realism of the photographic image and approach the musicality of abstract painting.
